Adult Alpaca vs. Baby Alpaca
Baby alpaca is much different than normal (adult) alpaca. 100% Baby Alpaca fur is finer and softer than normal alpaca. Additionally, since it is the first shearing of a young alpaca, it is also rare and is produced on a limited basis. 100% Baby Alpaca Fur has a touch that is sometimes compared to silk. The fiber is used to produce luxury items sold around the world. Alpaca fur combines softness, luster, warmth, lightness, and durability. This is something very few fibers can claim.
It is important to remember that neither Baby nor Adult alpaca animals are killed for their fur. In fact, the Peruvian government enacted a law that grants Alpaca protected status making it illegal to slaughter or trade in Alpaca meat. Pelts of Alpaca are only taken from Alpaca that have died naturally. The animal is much more valuable alive to the people of Peru than it is to kill it for its fur or meat.
